You really cant complain with the performance today.
To go away to the team 2nd in the league with the manager of the month and player of the month and battle all game is to be commended. The side has taken a lot of knocks in recent weeks and deservedly so but the change of shape and personnel that started with Thurrock again reaped rewards today.
By playing wingbacks it has allowed both Harding and Dunk (in particular) our most creative players to exploit space and make us more of a threat going forward.
The first half was end to end and as I've stated many times before it is ever so crucial that in games we score first for confidence reasons. Going one up with our first attack was exactly what we needed to settle the nerves and make us believe we could compete. Harding dispatched the penalty well and he went on to have a good first half.
That Farnborough went 2-1 up within 20mins was obviously a concern but we were never out of the game in the first half. Farnborough at that stage were good money for their lead as they were constantly probing and asking questions of our backline but you felt we had another goal in us (how often have we been able to say that in the last 3 months).
Mckenzie put in a good hardworking shift upfront and benefited from it with a goal (7th of the season?), if the first goal gave us confidence the second ensured that we wouldnt go down without a fight in the game.
The second half was mostly Farnborough, while I wouldnt say they had clear cut chances they clearly dominated possession but we were resolute and defended well as a side. Our outlet ball became Dunk who put in several marauding left wing runs, one in particular took him past two defenders and was just a whisker from him adding a toe poke beyond the keeper for what would have been a game winner.
For me 2-2 was the right result, while Farnborough had the balance of play we were never out of the game and for sheer endeavor and commitment we deserved the point.
MOM - Dunk, without a shadow of a doubt he looks back to his old self in this formation and was our main threat all game.
Special mention to Holloway, assured game and a penalty save to boot.
Sobers was immense at the back, the back 3 of harwood, nanami and sobers looks very solid.
Still feel we look a bit lightweight upfront, but while Warren has an injury of the 'mind' and 'body' theres not much we can do about that.
All in all fairplay to the boys and credit to the mgmt.
