Bromley 2 Chelsea XI 2 – Friendly – 06/08/2011 – Bromley came back from 2-0 down to record an impressive draw against Chelsea’s talented youngsters in an entertaining game at Hayes Lane. Chelsea played some good passing football in the first half dominating possession, with Marko Mitrovic missing a good chance and Adam Phillip having a good free kick tipped away by Dean Santangelo, but they were made to wait until the 45th minute before they got their breakthrough when Phillip tucked away a penalty for a foul by Ryan Adams. The second half saw The Blues make it two on 49mins when the impressive Phillip scored a great solo goal. Bromley battled back though, Marlon Patterson had a free kick tipped over by Jamal Blackman and Jacob Erskine had an effort saved. The Ravens eventually pulled one back on 79mins via Danny Hockton with a cool finish before drawing level on 84mins when defender Mike Jones cut in from the left and beat Blackman low to his left and into the corner of the net. Late on Santangelo mad a fine save from Mitrovic to keep the scores level and secure a pleasing draw for Mark Goldberg.
Quote for the game, 'If he scores a hatrick I'll buy you a drink.' -Col.
Bromley: Santangelo, Adams, Patterson, Waldren, Dolan, Harwood, Lockett, Henriques, Araba, Mckenzie, Green. Subs: Gilman, Dolby, Udoji, Tuna, Hockton, Erskine, Jones, Agu.

Sounds like a great game. Erskine and McKenzie! Where did they reappear from?

Really enjoyed the game today, great team spirit from bromley. It's hard to recognise this team from the one I watched against Erith, where we were really poor other than a moment of magic from Smith. To think we were missing Harding, Gareth & Sali, the latter 2 both really effective against Palace. I thought Jones looked promising when he came on against Whyteleafe but that was nothing compared to his cameo role today. Where has he come from & what position does he play? I thought he was a centre back the other week but now looks a cracking attacking midfielder.
Hope Patterson isn't out for long, he really looks quality this time round, I wasn't taken by him first time but I've almost forgotten Dunk now.
Don't envy MG choosing who to keep up front. Hockton might have been on the way out with Leon & Erskine playing today & Gareth, Hakan & Tuna around but he finished nicely for his goal & workrate was far improved from his last spell. Adams looks good to me too, & credit to Tutu, thought he had his best game of pre-season today. Dolby looks a better player than last season too, his work rate has gone up even more & he's more involved in the game.
Chelsea showed they are a technically gifted side & very confident with the ball at feet, but we seemed to want it more than them.
Whatever happens when the season starts, MG & co have done a very decent job when you think a few weeks ago we had nothing!

Could not get to the game today, but very happy. It seems as though MG has again pulled rabbits from hats! Where did Adams & Jones come from? Mckenzie back and Erskine as well. MG has some big decisions to make in the next week or so. Survival is still the untimate goal, but having spoke to Harry on Tuesday the team spirit is such that they all seem to want so much more for us fans and themselves. Great result against full time pro's, ok so reserves/youth but no mean feat to come back from 2 down.

Chelsea XI looked the part as you would expect re fitness and ability, but looked to me that they thought they just had to turn up to win! Although Philip scored the two goals think he has been watching Drogby too much...arrogant. poor work rate and fell down like he had been shot! Thought Bromley totally outplayed them in the second half, work rate was terrific by all the squad, and the passing was unrecognisable from the dross we saw much of last year.If this squad stays together ( and this is a big hope but pessimism abounds based on previous years) think we could have an encouraging year as there are some poor sides in Blue Square South on last years evidence. Good to start the season on a high and hope it continues so that crowd numbers increase to improve revenue.

Only two gripes for me about the game,1) the lads seemed to show to much respect to Chelsea in the first half and if they hadn't have done that then i thought they would have gone in level or in front. 2) The size of the crowd.Feel it's been such a shame bar the Palace game, that the crowds have not been as good as they could have because for me,the backing that Jerry has given MG in allowing him to get who has come in deserves to have had better gates to help the coffers.Given everything i have seen so far though i agree with what Tutu said in going for the play off's.Think if we can keep this squad together and the spirit that team has found,we could actually make the play off's.

I agree re the crowds. With the Palace game, it seemed there were few Bromley fans there despite it being overall a fantastic crowd (does anyone know what the attendance was?). On the plus side, the club seems to be doing great getting kids in – if they support Bromley now, hopefully some will stick when they’re adults, even if they’re Chelsea/Man Utd fans. Half the problem previously was that many people didn’t know Bromley FC existed. I was lucky that my dad took me once when I was about 13 (saw Carlton Fairweather play, before he moved to bigger things with the crazy gang) & a couple of years later I went again on my own, & was hooked for life (I was let out for a while when Garland was in charge). So maybe Jerry has decided to target the youth side of things, & TBH why not, the kids make more noise supporting the team than we’ve done for a few years, & other than some quality comments to the oppo keepers, the noise from behind the goal has become a whimper since the likes of Sam & Duku & Super Nic got us worked up.

Crowd was just under 2,00 for the Palace game BT. I agree with the kids part,my boy is telling all his mates to come down on a Saturday and now as a result more of them know about the club as a result which is great. Some were there on Saturday and hopefully they will come again.
