Although the result sounds bad,we actually did okay for most of the match in my opinion.I liked the look of our new signing Araba, held the ball up well, laid it off to someone each time and also had a good turn of pace.Yes he should have marked his debut with a goal but felt we lost alot when he went off.Was not looking forward to tonight but glad i went.Thought there started to be some cohesion in the team and along with Araba,i thought Waldren (don't know who he is) did well. For me the main reason for the scoreline was literally they were fitter towards the end.Interesting to see if we keep the keeper tonight on loan or if someone else comes in.Thought Marlon was good tonight and a totally different player from last season. If he can keep that up all season then i don't think we will miss Dunks.Thought Smith played well on the right and will cause a few teams some problems this season if he can keep that kind of performance going.Saturday i think could well help to lift the spirits with a win before facing Palace and Chelsea.

I like the look of Araba up front, Santangelo looked solid in goal and Smith is improving with every game, but as Mash said right at the start of pre-season ‘19th will be success this campaign’. There is very little real quality in the squad and if players shirk their responsibilities and don’t give 100% then we’ll be in trouble.

Araba looks like he could be handful for us which is something we've not really had up front since Wade Falana! Although i'm not certain he's gonna bang us the goals to survive, I certainly think he'll cause defences enough havoc to give our backline a breather and could cause plenty of problems ending in penalties and free kicks!
Orlando Smith looks a different player from last time, seems to have some self belief back and looks dangerous, that said it's only really him and Dolby that can run at people at the moment!
Now this is not a gripe, just an observation ............ its well documented that this season will be a battle and anything other than relegation will be a success. That said are Mr Hockton and Mr Williams the kind of player we need in that scenario. Mr Hockton is hardly known for his work rate, and although I can appreciate he maywell take our only chance made in a game, anything really outside of the 6yard box and he's becomes transparent. Same to an extent with Mr Williams. He can make a nice turn, drop a shoulder but he's hardly a "die for the cause" type! Obviously we cant have 11 triers out there as that wont win a game, just dont see how they will really fit in with the team ethos! The jury is out on Tuna too. Seen nothing to be impressed by yet!
My other concern is defence. The three centre backs of Dolan/Gillman/Harwood i like! However none of those 3 are bench warmers so would imagine one will go eventually! We cant have Gillman and Dolan together as we will get murdered for pace. Harwood is the most composed and i'd go with Dolan if honest as Gillman likes to move season after season (suggests £ more that effort is his incentive). The new keeper from Reading looks ok, didnt do much wrong with the 4 that went past him. Patterson looks better in pre-season at left back and we can cover with Dolby! Right back is a problem for me, Ugo is no bad player, but all four goals came from his side last night.
Anyway, we know pre-seaon hardly reflects result wise or squad wise on the actual season. Many more twists and turns ahead. In There!

I agree and think we looked preety good. In the first ten minutes I thought Araba couldn't trap a bag of cement but after a tricky start he really improved as the game went on and I'm sure he will be a real handful, and all season. Our ball playing teams under MG can and have looked weak in the depths of winter but Araba will cause problems all season I'm sure. I would agree that surely there cannot be room for Williams and Hockton too and Williams is getting slower every year. It was suggested at the game that Williams experience and ability to read the game could see him do a job in centre midfield in much the same way as Osborn. And whilst it was a surprising observation it may actually have merit, maybe MG will give him a go there in a coming friendly? If it makes financial sense then I would perhaps keep Hockton who will surely score goals playing off the big fella. Tamer Tuna has the best name ever but that can't be enough to secure a deal, and on last night's showing still has more to prove to secure a place in the squad. Keeper looked okay. Marvellous Marlon looked good at left back, not so sure about right back. Centre backs all good and would try and keep all three. Dolby gave his all and Smith, whilst offering some trickery looked a little off the pace / lightweight and in a similar guise to any number of Bromley no.7's over the last four or five years. I'm still to be convinced.

I've yet to see a pre-season friendly nut I must say I too have concerns about the Hockton/Williams partnership. This Araba seems a handful but, I'm assuming he's on far far less wages than Charlie Vines was last year. He too was a handful for centre halves but because of a lack of goals (despite laying on several) he was unfairly shipped from pillar-to-post. Presumably, due to cost this wouldn't happen if Araba didn't bang in goal in.
As for Williams in central midfield dictating the pace? One BIIIIIGGG difference. Osborn could tackle! Or at least knew when to throw his weight around. You could say Toots will do his dirty work and Williams can just sit which would be ok if we had a stellar forward line and quick wingers. We don't, it seems! So Williams would have to play his pass and break ainto the box.
Last word, what about Toots at right back? Sali could then play in the middle. Would also allow Patterson to get forward a bit as we could shift across to a back 3?

Some good comments ,Araba with Hockton for me with Williams coming off the bench ,id go with Dolan & Harwood at the back as it looks the better pairing . Marlon is decent & even last season had some good games ,Orlando looks like he can cause full backs trouble & ive always been a Dolby fan. Cant blame the keeper for the goals it was like the alamo last half hour we didnt get near their goal much. I try not to get too high or low on the friendlies been had before but at least we have the basis of a team if they can gel together. Really liked Araba a bit like Erskine 1st time around .
