I have to admit to being really quite worried about the coming season now, no player announcements at all, Wes gone and Harry with nine options in front of him i cant see him being here next season. I can see a big struggle ahead!

I don't entirely disagree with you, given that all the players we've heard had been released or were available from other sides, all seem to have been snapped up. And a few sides really seem to be throwing the kitchen sink & overdraft at promotion. But if we had done nothing over the summer, would we have stood still? I wonder whether in fact we'd have fallen behind, especially with Dunk moving on up too.
So you've just gotta hope that MG can pull some rabbits out the hat & keep us going until the work off the pitch is complete & starts to bear fruit. It makes perfect sense to put the foundations in place before putting the roof on & better to go for promotion with an infrastructure to support not only promotion, but also failure to achieve it. But it's crucial we stay in this league, drop down & we'll struggle to get the likes of Hall & Dunk to come & we'll be looking at loan signings from Ebbsfleet rather than Charlton or Palace.
Give the club a few more days at least before we worry, we were all banging on a while ago about not wanting everyone on contract so we can hardly moan about not hearing of any. It's not that difficult to get a few things in place - Foderingham on loan or Butler back in goal & we'd all be pretty happy? Agu didn't disgrace himself either so i wouldn't be gutted if he was given pre-season to stake a claim

Your right about the infrastructure bt, my worries are that some sides are now full time, other sides as you say are throwing everything budget wise at promotion and fair play to the club for being honest and wanting to build things off the pitch, but if any new supporters come to the lane a few times and see us get battered they will not return. Every day on the nonleague sites we hear about one player or another having signed for whoever, but i think its only us left who have not announced anything. What experienced players are left out there? (excluding last years squad) I just hope the off pitch side does not lead to the on pitch side being affected to such an extent that come march/april were spending on big loan signings to get us out of relegation trouble.

Next saturday we will have more idea of who we might have & who is not around ,i think Daly was not so good last season once teams set about stopping him he drifted out of games ,think we have seen the best of him.I am lookin forward to the Gills game & as they have just got Kedwell from AFC & Whelpdale from Peterbrough & 4 other new players they might have a few fans travel up.

Just saw Cambridge are becoming the new Cray. Joining Harrison Dunk is Ashley Carew, who rejected a new contract from Ebbsfleet.

I know the boys were training over at Norman Park yesterday and Tutu and Ugo were there but that was about all the names i heard.Be interesting come saturday as to who will be named. Not to sure about Agu though if i am honest.Saw him play a few reserve games last season and he didn't exactly cover himself in glory.Would love to see Butler back though.Could never understand the decision to let him go.

we had Holloway on contract already so couldn't justify keeping Butler as well, esp with Foderingham on loan. With hindsight I guess if Holloway wasn't on contract, we might have released him & kept Butler. That's no critiscm of Holloway, just that injuries didn't exactly allow him to shine for us, though he played pretty well when he had some game time behind him

Over 1,100 supporters made their way to Ashford United's Homelands Stadium last night for Gillingham's first pre-season game of the summer, a fixture which also marked the inaugural senior fixture for Ashford, who start life in the newly created Kent Invicta League this season.
To mark the prestigious occasion Andy Hessenthaler fielded a full strength squad, though their non-league opposition were by no means overawed on the night, keeping the score line to a respectable 3-0.
He does later mention that there may be a few trialists on Saturday, but you never know, could be a decent crowd.
