The book had me actually crying on the train. Particularly enjoyed it as I became a 6-10 games a season man (also being a Palace fan so went when the boys were away) about 6 years after him. Didn't know the exact characters ofcourse but what a trip down memory lane. Couldn't see the book on display in the Club shop when I popped in at some point last season which absolutely amazed me. What's that all about??

can't believe you didn't remember Roy Oliver though? I thought anyone alive who has ever supported Bromley would know who he is?! I remember him when I first starting coming in the mid 80's, I then drifted away a little bit after Trevor Ford left & through some pretty dire performances in the 90's, then came back more regularly around the time Jerry took over as really bought into what Jerry was trying to do for the club, even if it took a few years for that to take effect on the pitch. And even now, you can always hear Roy informing the linesman of a possible error of judgement from pretty much anywhere in the ground
I really hope the club is able to make the most of the film, don't imagine there'll be any direct financial benefit as can't imagine they'd use any of Hayes Lane to film it, but wouldn't it be fantastic if the launch or a post lauch party could be held in the upstairs bar or something along those lines, to show the club today.
The film looks as though it's going to deviate from the book a little which is probably a good thing as there's only so much you can take in a cinema of watcing a team lose over & over!

Will have to have the biggest budget in film history just to recreate Roys' glasses!

Dave here - I've seen some of the script and Roy is still pretty recognisable as the Roy we all know and love, complete with the world's thickest glasses. I'm sure they'll give him a cameo in it. I know that the producer met up with him and took loads of notes which he (possibly accidentally) forwarded to me.
As for why the book isn't in the club shop, I think it's because they didn't like the "worst team in Britain" subtitle. Which were the publisher's words, not mine. Honest.

Hope he isn't too disappointed when Stonebridge leaves. I'm still not over it.

Congratulations on a brilliant book Dave. I have to say that i'd assumed the Club and yourself could not agree on the "financials" in relation to the sale of the book in the Club shop. If they have really taken the stance you have mentioned, I find it ridiculous. We've won the Amateur Cup 3 times, an absolutely mindblowingly awesome stat which should give the Club the self assuredness to smile at itself. There's good money in these hard times for both parties too. It's complete madness. Any publicity is pretty much good publicity as we all know. It's win win everywhere I look on the issue. Are you going to approach the Club on it again? Have to balance it off by praising said footballing institution in other areas though, the new stand bar is better than anything i've ever seen at Palace, tastefully done and everything, around Xmas with the little lights and everything they even bothered with atmosphere, absolute class. Off on a tangent there but credit where credit's due. I just hope that you can get your masterpiece in the shop.

The club shop should sell retro "As seen in 'The Bromley Boys'" Supporters Club badges!

Thanks SB1. I don't really know why they don't sell it, but that was someone's theory. I know Jerry supports the film, so that might help. The publisher hasn't been that great about distribution, to be honest. Would love to see those badges on sale again. I keep checking ebay, but the only time I saw one, someone beat me to it.
