Bromley’s unbeaten run came to an end in inglorious fashion at Gander Green Lane on Tuesday as their inability to defend set pieces was rudely exposed by their old rivals.
Sutton dominated the first half with Bromley failing to register an attempt on goal and they eventually took the lead on 40mins when Craig Dundass smashed the ball home after The Ravens had failed to clear their lines several times. Mark Goldberg’s men will point to the fact that the referee had blocked a Bromley through ball which caught them on the back foot, but they really should have dealt with this before the goal came.
The second half saw Sutton continue to dominate and they were 2-0 up on 51mins when Dundass headed home a deep cross. Bromley finally came to life after the introduction of Elliott Buchanan and Max Noble and they pulled one back on 57mins when Pierre Joseph-Dubois latched on to a Marlon Patterson through ball and coolly finished past Tom Lovelock. The Ravens drew level on 64mins when Buchanan hit a sweet drive from the edge of the box into the bottom corner. Louie Theophanous then put the visitors in front four minutes later when he scored a great solo effort, but the lead didn’t last long. On 74mins another Sutton corner was poorly defended and Jamie Stuart turned the ball in at the far post for 3-3. The home side were then awarded a soft penalty on 76mins, but Joe Welch saved Sam Rents spot kick. Sutton dominated the last few minutes going close twice before in the 94th minute they grabbed a winner when a long throw was poorly defended again and Harry Beautyman smashed the ball into the roof of the net from six yards.
The game although very entertaining showed the defensive frailty of Mark Goldberg’s side against the more direct sides especially with both first choice centre backs out injured.

i would be makin a minimum of two or even three changes from last nights starting eleven, we require to cut our cloth to suit our purposes, this does not include jones being the fall guy and being dropped to make way for Buchanan, some have a off day and find themselves on the bench but some under proform much more often and stay nailed on starters, after going two down we done very well to claw our way back into a lead, then blew it! to soft at times by far we need a few b*****ds on the payroll,,,,,,,,

Shame its not american football rules as at 3-2 we needed to change tactics & hold on, but with all due respect, Finn & Rhule aren't the players to bring on to hold onto a lead, we could have done with bringing Jones back on again! Just needed someone to hassle & harrass & stop them pinging the balls in.

Main thing was that after an abject 1st half performance, we did at least give them a decent game; the team who wanted it most, won, so can't argue with that, & at least we saw 3 decent Bromley goals & a yet another top Welch performance, & a very entertaining 2nd half, so let's take it out on Truro.

Surely though, the referee didn't block the ball, we kicked it at him? he was moving away from it, we were careless with the kick?

Agreed BT, poor choice of words from me. A poor pass that hit the Ref.

Wins last night and against Truro would have had us going to Boreham Wood with the opportunity to (at best) overtake them and (at worst) get to within 2 points of them. Looking at the table now you have to say the play-offs are beyond us, with most teams around us having played less games and some tough away trips to come. Still, would very much have liked to be in this position a few weeks ago. As I see it now objectives for the season have to be:-

1) To get to the London Cup Final
2) To finish in the top half and possibly achieve our best ever position at this level.

Lets keep the momentum going and really take the game to Truro on Saturday...

I think Sutton were well worth their win to be honest. We played well for about 12 minutes in the second half and took our only 3 chances of the game. However over the balance of play Sutton physically battered us into submission, pressured us tremendously off the ball and set the tempo of the match.

First half we were abject and lucky to not go in more than 1 down at the break and at 2 down early in the second you figured we would be on the end of a good hiding. Where the team deserve credit is mounting the comeback but we never really looked comfortable at any stage.

It does pose the question if next season getting a few 'spoilers' is an essential as we have always looked out of our depth against the physical sides in the league.

We'll never know, if Moses (or Liam) were playing whether the result would have been different, and you cant blame just one player for the goals, but looking back at the highlights they were all goals which maybe on another day, we'd have got the ball away earlier.

Is an argument for maybe a couple of different options in the squad next season. MG likes to play a certain way, and i enjoy watching it, though there will be games, such as Tuesday where a different approach may be best (though cant complain with the subs that we made).

We've had a decent size squad throughout the season, though with a number of similar type players. I like the formation that we play and it suits our players well, but does make it difficult to switch to a Plan B if needed.

We've come up against their big forward Dundas over the years at various clubs, and i've never rated him that highly, but he is a lump who can cause problems up front, and he bullied and won the battle with our centre halfs on Tuesday. It's the type of player we dont have at the club anymore, (Pacquette / Vines were more in that mold) and in Louie would have probably been able to cause more of a threat in the hole playing off someone like that who could win headers and keep possession.

I agree with Exiled, we have to have a real go at winning the LSC. We should be ok in the league now, with an eye on the highest ever finish, but a cup final woulfd be a great finish for this interesting season.

Looks like Wingate & Finchley away if we win on Tuesday. KFC have got Cray in the quarter finals - I guess its down to what sort of team they put out as to whether they win the trophy or not. If we can get through next Tuesday and at Wingate then it would make an interesting final nonetheless....
