Have I missed something? I go to most games, which I take my kids so don't go into the bar hence not up to date with everything. On forum is says Readings have left. Is this true? Have they left us in debt etc.

Like you I don't hang around after matches now, but I have heard the same rumours too.

My understanding is that these are now confirmed facts - but hopefully somebody better informed will fill in the detail.

I was told a month ago the Readings money hasn't gone through and that Jerry is now back in charge.

I heard a roumour a while back that money had not changed hands but was hoping that someone was playing a game of brinkmanship having found out that the job was a bit bigger than had originally been thought. I can't believe that Mr A.R would want to be seen striding about the place like he owned it, spending someones money like water, coming up with ambitious expensive plans only to walk away leaving Jerry and the club in financial difficulty. I would like to think that the Readings had a bit more about them and would have taken the job on knowing that they had the stomach for it and what was possible and sustainable. If I am wrong however, I've got a feeling that the club is going to need all the help it can get and I hope that we won't be seeing too much of Mr MoneySupermarket.com around Hayes Lane. The club would also need to ask itself if promotion is a good idea now. I would hope that we still go for it and let the squads qualities, ambition and determination speak for us, and what will be will be. I personally don't need it to keep turning up down the Lane. Good luck to HMS Bromley FC and all who sail in her.

I know there are plenty of fans out there who want to just come and watch the game, support the team and aren't remotely interested in what's occurring 'upstairs', which I totally respect, but the views of fans who DO want to know should also be respected. No doubt if this thread continues, someone will come and say something along the lines of 'I don't give a f@%$ about what's happening as long as the team are doing well' etc, but when you're told that the builders of Ravens Bar were on the verge of driving a JCB through it because they've not been paid alarm bells tend to start ringing! Clearly, speculation is rife amongst fans at the moment, so I think it would really be in the club's best interest to make some sort of statement to put us in the picture, particularly at such a crucial stage of what could be a history making season.

forgot to say, when we left the Venue bar about 6pm last night, the evening's proceedings in Ravens was just getting going - it was literally a Big Fat Gypsy Wedding - so by the end of the night they may well have demolished the place anyway!. I feel for the staff working last night and also for the people at the upstairs function!

I heard in December that the players had not been paid by the new owners. If something is wrong it needs to be sorted asap.We have come to far to drop back now.

Reasonably serious rumours potentially.
A LOT of money has been spent - and by who? As previously stated this needs addressing by a statement from the club itself. Rumour mill and the Internet = uncertainty from fans and players alike. Opposition then of course use it to their own advantage.
Club make a statement. And make it fast in my opinion. If only for the fans peace of mind. Sometimes info from the club is somewhat lacking or delayed. This MUST NOT be one of those times.

“I see the birds have flown”. If the rumours are true, then the only surprise to some of us is it comes as a surprise to others. If the club is now in financial trouble by spending money on the huge off the field improvements without guarantees or actually seeing the colour of the Readings money then we are at best naïve and at worse idiots.
I reserve any further comment until the facts revealed.

I think those in charge have a lot on their plates right now to be worrying about PR. They may need time to sort it out before going public.

Maybe things have changed with the owners. But Jerry has brought us this far, and I am sure that if the club needs a person to keep it going in the right direction then Jerry and every one else in the management team are the people to do it. Lets keep the faith.

Surely this is just a wind up, rumour etc etc?
All of the off field developements would have cost a fair whack and I'm sure alot of it would have needed paying up front or in instalments?
I guess no news is good news and this is just scaremongering!

I hope the players and staff are getting paid and any uncertainties are sorted as there is a job to be done. Lets get promoted,we're in the driving seat ! Mark needs to keep these players focused.
This is our big chance.Six games left, players got to give it everything now.

This talk has been bubbling along in the background for some time now (at least a couple of months as has been said above). In that time, we have still brought in players of the calibre (and expense) of Cook and May so you'd have to presume that a) there is no issue with players getting paid and b) the club is still gunning for promotion. We are, at least for the time being, of course still reliant on those who have put cash in to continue doing so and, like many small clubs who have tried to go for the big time, are very much at the mercy of them continue to do so. For those like me that have struggled with the concept of "having everything now" (promotion, redevelopment of the ground) as opposed to a steadier progress and who have seen the club struggle financially over the years, there has always been a nagging doubt whether this was really all too good to be true. That said, I go back to my initial point that the players seem focussed and the ambition seems to still be there on the club's part. Hopefully it is just a matter of a few issues being ironed out rather than anything more serious, albeit it would be nice to hear a reassuring "official" word from the club to that effect, or at least to confirm that the future remains bright (as I accept that there may not be any great desire to air the full story if things still need to be resolved).

Am reading all this new news to me with great sadness and a very heavy heart. The one thing I did not ever want BFC to become was another boom and bust club, and whilst we clearly are not that yet, this has a few of the hallmarks in my opinion. I just hope someone somewhere gets to grips with this and helps us SAFELY become what we are all now (based on the quality of the team and ground)hoping for . . . . . . . . I totally understand how delicate this situation must be for those involved, but it would be nice to know something, just a few facts maybe? ?

Really hope we win the league even more so now ,if we can get some big crowds for remaining home games it might help with sponsors / investors , i dont understand what Readings have got out of this except for ruining their name further if the rumours are true . I was really starting to believe this was our year at last but if we do it now will be a even bigger achievement ,i think we should get a statue of Jerry outside the stadium .

Next task - turn the Raven's Bar into just that - replace the generic sports photos with memories of the achievements Jerry, Mark, George Wakeling (great to see the man who started our march up the leagues in attendance) and those that have worn our colours of the years have helped us to achieve.
