...with anyone other than Joe Welch who is the only reason that we are currently above Eastleigh (always look on the bright side, and their result brought a smile to my face as I entered the bar). Thoughts for today? Be warned, this may end up as the longest post on this forum. First thought. The grass looked lovely, but if we intend to put that much manure on it every Saturday, it should look good. The team today were cr@p. We won't come up against many teams more predictable, more pedestrian or more average than Staines, and yet we failed, for about 85 minutes of the game, to put them under any real pressure. OK, first game of the season and all that, but the team looked like they had never seen each other before and were taking part in a training game, more concerned with getting it over and done with rather than trying to win. Joe Welch was superb, as always, and is the only player today who should not be ashamed to claim his wage packet. Sanchez Ming was ok, then played a blinder for the last ten minutes, really fired up and determined to win. Shame about the very average performance for the other eighty, and it does seem that he only has two emotional states - fast asleep and psychotically aggressive. Pacquette did what he did best, holding the ball up and getting into good positions, but seemed afraid to try for a goal himself, and rarely had anyone to help him out when he got into a good position. Waldren and Malcolm both huffed and puffed, put in plenty of effort, but very little substance, although Waldren was possibly a touch unlucky in front of goal once or twice (but we should be able to rely on ability, not getting a fortunate bounce of the ball). The rest had ok-ish games, not doing very much wrong, but also very little right, certainly not much to try to win the game. The exceptions, imo, who need to be mentioned, were Du bois, who was not only useless but a liability for most of the time he was on the pitch. OK, I don't know the full facts, maybe he was carrying an injury, maybe his favourite hamster died last night and he couldn't get it out of his mind, but unless he has a good reason for playing like one of those things you tend to find at the top of ladies legs (and will have recovered by Tuesday) then he certainly does not deserve a starting place at Eastbourne. Also Fuesini, who, while he did ok if not well overall, did not seem to know what being captain meant. I hadn't realised he was captain until I saw it on the screen in the club bar afterwards. He did sweet FA to encourage or motivate or improve positioning, seeming to think that the armband was simply a fashion accessory. And Chabaan. OK, I know I posted here that he would be my choice for starting alongside Pacquette. Well, I was wrong. On today's showing he simply is not capable of playing at this level of football. Too slow, no imagination, poor positioning sense, poor finishing. Overall, not too good for a striker! Rest of the squad average, at best. That said, there were some good points. Against a very average, if not poor, Staines squad we managed to dominate the game, sometimes for seconds at a time. Most passes went to the right player, or at least the right colour of shirt - although not the final pass, of course. And it always looked like if we had managed to score (and we were close a few times, I admit) then we could have run up a cricket score, but more due to a poor Staines side than a convincing Bromley one. But then again, with 15 minutes to play, I am sure I was not the only one who thought that the game had 1-0 Staines, scored in stoppage time, written all over it - and without Welchy, it would have been. A few players appeared in the bar afterwards, briefly, and all had the decency to look ashamed. Staines players also appeared, much happier, and happy to admit Bromley were by far the better side, but with no killer instinct. And, last point, told that the club has 'two proven goalscorers' from 'a higher division' who have agreed to sign for Bromley, only sticking point was the wages they wanted, but after today the club will be signing one. I am not holding my breath, but if true, future results may be more pleasing. PS the inconsistant ref who seemed to think that handling the ball was ok in almost any situation didn't help - maybe he went to a rugger school as a lad?

Granted. Not the best start. Shame young. Peach got left out. [Bet he wouldn't. Go 100 games without a Goal]. As said before. Sobers. Moses Harwood. Across the back. With a Five in middle third. The goals will come but we just gotta take a punt to control games that inc a few goalls. Fear not. Bet we get some return tue night.

I'm not as uncomplimetary as the 1st poster - I thought the back 4 were fine, Ali & Danny competed in the middle & Welch is a fine keeper at this level, saving us yet again. But it looked more like an away game & going forward it looked like none of the players had played together before. It wasn't decisive enough, it was more like pre-season kick-about until 10mins to go when Ming was finally allowed to get forward & Danny started pulling a few strings.
Just because PJD is on contract doesn't mean he has to start every game. He's got talent for sure, but if he's off form, play someone else. Really wanted to see Jones play today, he may not have the silky skills of some, but he wants to make things happen. It does look like we have a good 352 side struggling to play 442. We're gonna be hard to beat this year that's for sure, but when MG seemed to be signing wingers & strikers it looked like it was gonna be something resembling Newcastle of a few years ago. But let's not give up hope yet, presumably Jarrett should return soon & balls will hopefully be flying in from the left when he does.
At least Sam Wood scored a blinder & Garath McCleary seemed to be the catalyst for Reading getting a point.

PJD had a off day but we know he has quality ,thought we dominated most of game & Staines were limited to 2 chances where Welch did brilliantly,Pacquette did ok & i think he will do well once he settles in . Negativity has started early it seems (suddenly Ali isnt good enough to play in a League he has been in for years) please lets give it 3 or 4 games at least before writing us off. Thought the huge Staines centre back was excellent like Duku in his prime. Lets hope for better at Eastbourne .
