Bromley 0 Staines Town 0 - BSBS - 18/8/12 After a dificult pre-season Bromley's league campaign got off to a frustrating start at home to Marcus Gayle's new look Swans. The Ravens started well with Ali Chaaban going close and Mark Goldger's side moving the ball round well. Staines played in the image of their new manager's Crazy Gang team big, direct, looking for the diagonal and solid at the back. Bromley struggled to get through the swans back line and when they did they lacked the killer touch in front of goal. Danny Waldren, Richard Pacquette, Pierre Jospeh-Dubois and Chaaban all missing good opportunities. Staines' Dave Wheeler missed their only chance blazing over late on. The second half saw Tony Garrod have an effort saved by home keeper Joe Welch before Bromley again had the best of things but failed to take their chances. Chabaan was denied by Jake Turner and Sanchez Ming also brought the best out of the visitors custodian after a mass scramble in the box. Garrod had a late chance to win it for Staines but Welch made a barve stop at his feet to keep the scores level.
Quote for the game, 'This is every home game last season.' - Rob. Bromley: Welch Ming Patterson Fuseini Swaibu Harwood Dubois (Rhule) Waldren Pacquette (McDonnell) Chaaban (Araba) Malcolm. Subs; Sobers Jones.

I used to be there on the front line fighting the war. Now I am just at home on the sofa keeping score. |

just goes to show how important a decent keeper is, Welch saved us twice near the end, and in the process saving the blushes of our forwards. Interesting to note in TFT (another fine issue Col, loved the Chokesford festival ad) that several writers pointed out our deficiencies in front of goal last season...much of the same this afternoon, the Sanchez Ming drive apart we didn't look like we could hit a barn door today. Early days though, KTF

Today was hot and in that context maybe some of the lack of sharpness can be excused. However one game in and already its looking like the need for a goal scorer cannot be ignored much longer.
As rich rightly points out, Welch didnt have much to do all game (as we bossed posession) but when required in the last 10 he came up huge.
Better teams than Staines will sucker punch us this season if we dont learn to take chances.
Unto Eastbourne.

We will have Jarratt back soon & that will stretch deffences more ,if Pacquette can score v his previous clubs he will be one of the top scorers .

Following Bromley from afar can be an interesting experience, saying that the report for the opening game of this season sounds a lot like the majority of last year.
I guess not losing the opening home game is important, onwards to the next few!

On reflection a points a point. We must not be afraid of change. As our man down under says. “A little like season”. [Might be a bit harsh after one match]. What ever side MG trots out tomorrow I'm 100% behind the chaps. BUt here's what I would put out ! Welsh. Sobers Moses Harwood. Ming Waldren Fuseini Peach Dubois Mcdonnell Pacquette. See you at Eastbourne ! INVICTA.

A point's a point for sure when away from home, but we could have had all 3 Saturday if we'd let Ming get forward a bit sooner - Patterson too. I'd also go for your team tonight apart from Jones instead of Dubois on the left of the midfield 5 as it's away from home & possibly Hak up front depending on the size of their defenders, but Nic's always good at making defenders work & putting them under pressure. If holding them comfortably at 60mins or so, then bring on a more attacking player like Malcolm/Dubois as their defence tire.
