Bromley 0 Thurrock 0 - TFT Match Report

Bromley 0 Thurrock 0– BSBS – 21/04/2012 –
Bromley go into the last game of the season still under the threat of relegation after they failed to convert a host of chances against already relegated Thurrock.
The Ravens started the game on the attack with Albert Jarrett the main threat down the left. Anthony Thomas headed wide, Ali Fuseini had an effort saved by Ross Kitteridge, Tutu Henriques headed over and Michael Malcolm missed a great chance when one on one. Thurrock created some half chances later in the half, but Bromley had the majority of possession without making it count. Heading into the half Thomas & Malcolm were both denied by Kitterigde to keep the scores tied at zero.
It was a similar story in the second half with Henriques, Fuseini and Malcolm going close before the home fans frustration further increased when Malcolm had a goal chalked off for offside. Pierre Joseph-Dubois & Hakeem Araba were both denied by Kitteridge more than once, with Araba also firing off target several times when well placed. There were a couple of goal mouth scrambles hacked away and it beame clear that today wasn't Bromley's day. Into the final minutes the visitors wasted as much time as possible to run the clock down with lengthy delays for 'injuries' and Fleet escaped one final scare when Jarrett just failed to direct his header past Kitteridge after good work by Dubois.
This game summed up Bromley’s performances at home all season failing to convert draws into wins which could cost them dear come next week.

Quote for the game, 'That's the strory of our season right there.' - Stokes.

Bromley: Welch, Henriques, Patterson, Swaibu, Harwood, Dubois, Waldren (Williams 82), Fuseini, Jarrett, Thomas (Araba 60), Malcolm. Subs Not Used: Ibrahima, Rhule, Jones.

I used to be there on the front line fighting the war. Now I am just at home on the sofa keeping score.

Well I've got no complaints. Unbelievable we didn't win, but I've seen games like that which we have lost and I had a bad feeling that was going to happen today. At least we went for it and everyone put a shift in. Thurrock made it easy for us though, they only ever seemed to string a few passes together.

Come on Basingstoke :P

you're bang on the money there Col : " failing to convert draws into wins" could be this season's motto, lost count of the number of games we've drawn at HL.

Cheers for another fine TFT, in there mate, KTF

It seems that if Basingstoke beat Hampton midweek then we are safe .

It’s easy to look at our games against Thurrock & wonder whether we’ve a good enough team or tactics to be in BSS given both came with the new influx of players & we managed just 2 points. But it’s wrong I think to be critical of Saturday given the effort put in & the number of chances created – 0-0 was a fair result but 4-0 wouldn’t have flattered us. The first game was the one that disappointed me.

My only negative was the speed Thomas took to leave the field. Not bothered about the tantrum afterwards, but come on, one player isn’t bigger than the team, so pull it together & show us next Saturday that you’re part of the team & want to win. The stage was then set for Hak to come on & score the winner. He did give things a lift, upto that point the attacking 4 seemed a bit ‘samey’ & Hak added variety & passion, but it just wouldn’t go in the net. I rarely see the point of MG swapping wingers during most games, but switching Malcolm & PJD did seem to make us look more threatening, but it just wasn’t our day.

I’m impressed with the defence the last few months though, Swaibu & Welch are obviously quality & are helped by Fuseini sitting in front, but Tutu, Patterson & Harwood are all doing their share of making us very hard to beat. If someone else as well as Hak had scored a few goals, we’d be nearly mid-table by now.
