Dartford 1 Bromley 2 - TFT Match Report

Dartford 1 Bromley 2 – FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round – 29/10/2011–
Bromley progressed to the first round of the FA Cup with a solid defensive display at Dartford who despite their dominance of possession failed to turn it into goals and paid the price.
The game got off to a lively start with the Referee showing several early yellow cards. Dartford dominated the play with Bromley defending deep and hitting on the break, Arron Rhule going close on a rare foray up field. Then on 27mins Bromley were handed the initiative when Gareth Williams was tripped in the box and Hakeem Araba tucked away the penalty for 0-1. The lead only lasted 3mins though as on the counter attack from a Ravens corner Dartford equalised when Jack Pallen finished smartly past Tommy Forecast. Just before the break Ryan Hayes fired just wide for the home side who continued to be on top.
The second half continued in the same vein with Dartford dominating and Bromley dropping ever deeper in defence. The home side were awarded a penalty of their own on 54mins when Rhule was guilty of leaving a foot out for Hayes to trip on. Hayes missed the spot kick though blasting it wide of the posts. Bromley took the opportunity with both hands and went close soon after when Salifou Ibrahima had a header cleared off the line, but they grabbed the next opportunity when following a foul on Warren McBean, Williams curled in a superb free kick over the wall to make it 1-2 on 74mins. Late on The Darts had all the play, but were guilty of several wayward efforts, their best chance coming deep into injury time when Forecast made a super save from Tom Bonner’s header to secure Bromley’s place in the first round proper, the third time they have achieved this with Mark Goldberg in charge.

Quote for the game, 'I can't even watch.' - Matt.

Bromley: Forecast, Henriques, Patterson, Dolan, Gillman, Hill, Harwood, Ibrahima, Rhule, Araba, Williams. Subs: McBean, Udoji, Smith, Agu, Jones, McKenzie, Harding.

I used to be there on the front line fighting the war. Now I am just at home on the sofa keeping score.

It was a very entertaining match to watch and i am very pleased how our team year is playing "as a team" this year, hopefully the ego team of last year has gone for good. I thought that Gareth Williams was our man of the match, he always has a look up when he gets the ball and looks to make things happen. Hopefully when Aaron Rhule gains confidence he will gamble on making runs, at the moment he always seems to be on the back foot and waits for something to happen before he goes forward. Numerous times today Williams had the ball, the through pass was on but Aaron was too late seeing it . I like Hakeem, he gives it 100% the whole time which counts for a lot at this standard, i am worried about our central midfield thou, dare i say we need a Wes Daley type player to grab a game by the neck.
All in all thou a good start to the season and hopefully a big cup tie to come, a Sheffield team would be great.

And there was I saying I'd take a draw :P I should have had more faith. What a match. When Ginge is able to get into the game, it really is a joy to watch him pull the strings. Nice for Waldren to get another crack after serving his suspension today. I'm more than happy with Forecast who pulled off a superb save late on. My only criticism is that he sometimes punches instead of catching and killing the ball.

Congratulations to the team and management. You really did us proud today.

First 15 minutes I think Ginge must have touched the ball about 3 times. After that we managed to get the ball to him a bit more, partly with him picking up the loose balls from Hak's knockdowns or the defences clearances. Come second half everything we did came through him and he fully deserved the goal (which I must say a couple of us called from behind the goal!). Personally there were very few negatives at all. I must admit I was worried every time Hayes got the ball as he's one of their best players.

I don't agree with the comment about our central midfield. I thought Sali was outstanding in his work today. Certainly 1st half he seemed to be doing a man-marking job on Bradbrook and did it very effectively as he's their engine and he wasn't anywhere bear as effective as he has been in previous matches. Ok there was a couple of sloppy passes but he's all action and tries to keep things simple. With Ginge dropping deep we don't need a Daly spraying 40 yard balls to the wings. Hopefully Rory Hill's injury isn't too bad. Stop start season so far but he looks very promising. Tbh even if we'd have drawn, with Waldren to come back I'd have backed us to win the replay. Thankfully, it didn't come to that.

Personally I'll take anyone we've never played before but obviously the likes of the Sheffield boys, Torquay, Exeter would do. I'm actually rather hopeful that if it's a home draw it's MK Dons. It'd be great to have a anti-KFC love-in!

I did feel we were a bit lightweight in midfield starting with Hill & Rhule especially as we didn't really bring them into the game too much 1st half. Would perhaps have preferred starting with just one of them. But then again without Waldren & Taylor & presumably Green, the options were a little limited though I'm sure Harry has played on the right before? I hope he gets a chance to shine over the coming weeks as hasn't had a great season so far, but great we've got him even if we need to change formation to get best of him.

Think Rhule struggled a bit today but finished brightly & surely he'll only get better. The whole defence Inc Forecast put in a great performance today & Williams did his usual running the show for the last 25mins. McBean again looked absolute quality & I think his technical ability helped no end to give us a bit more control of the game. Sali did his job quietly & effectively. Hakan is bonkers, but stayed cool for his penalty unlikely Dartford....

Great feeling at the end wasn't it- as much as it's great for us fans, you can see reaching the 1st round really means something to the players & management.I think thats £25000 in prize
money now too

wonder whether the players enjoy away games more as we seem to give them greater support ?

I'll have to agree with Kev above, great news for the Bromley fans overseas.

A great run in the FA Cup, fingers crossed we can get a good draw and who knows I might get a chance to watch the mighty ravens on TV in Sydney yet?

Thoroughly enjoyed that yesterday. Thought we got the tactics right, having lost there twice recently think we needed to have a defensive core to our team.
An even first half where no team really showed much - Dartford possibly slighlty edged possesion but we were more direct in getting the ball to Hak or the wingers to chase, was expecting more from Dartford - though the ref was taking over with 4 early bookings. Deffo pen and Hak cooly slotted in. We over committed at a corner and a good break by Dartford and it's one-all.
Second half and Dartford came out bright for the first 10 mins, playing some better passing football. Thought bringing Mcbean on for Hak (looks like he had an ice pack on) helped us stretch the game more which gave us pace up front and when we were running at them through the middle they couldn't contain us with Ginge pulling the strings. We were defending deep and desperate at times and couldn't see the pen from our end though a couple of dartford fans said it was soft, but we were getting ragged and i thought the lino gave it for a tug but maybe not, though it was on the cards. The missed turned the game and soon after we run at them and no surprise to get a freekick and a great finish by Ginge.
For all their possesion in the 2nd half there were countless balls into the box but they didn't seem to have anyone there to finish and Forecast had a busy catching practice session and a stunning point blank save late on.
Mad scenes at the end, exactly why you endure bad results/performances for times like that - the players loved it - good turnout and a vocal Bromley support. Great experience for the younger players on the pitch.
Hope we get a decent draw, if away would be nice to avoid a Non League team or someone like Crawley/AFC - Charlton/Bournemouth/Torquay/Either Sheffield, a trip up North for the novelty would be good. Reckon it we'll be a home one - and a big 4000-plus crowd at the lane. Could be the return of Ryan Hall or Sammy Wood! :) ::) :)

Gutted I had to be 160 miles away from the action, but thats what families do to you. Well done the Bromley! £12.5K in the bank and another 18K if we progress further plus gate money. This should help alleviate players having to go before the end of the season to protect the budget.

This was my first time back to watch bromley since moving to Exeter to study at the university a couple of mounths ago. The moment i heard we had been drawn against dartford in the 4th qualifing round of the FA cup, i knew i had to make it back to watch the match at any cost. BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE!!!.

Everything about yesterday was right for a exciting, tence and vocal match. We were long due a win at princes park, revenge for the kent senior cup and of course the magic that naturally revolves around the FA CUP.

Will never forget yesterday, amazing atmopshere from our supporters, getting right behind the team and out singing dartford. i still clearly see Haks penelty and ging's free kick and still can steel hear the jubilation and maddness of the celebrations that followed.

That was the best atmosphere i have heard from a Bromley crowd in a long time, normally we are quite tame and quite, partically noticeble at home. But we showed are appreciation and sung are support and the players did not disappoint with there celebrations at the end. Im have always been proud to be a Bromley supporter, but have never felt as much pride as i did yesterday.

Living in Exeter means that of course im looking out for the number 19 or number 32, meaning a away match at Exeter City or PLYMOUTH ARGYLE. Of course i would like bromley to play a high level league team at home, but no matter who we get or were we play, i will be there standing shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the Bromley fans and singing my heart out for the team.

I am Bromley till i die. Come on you BROMMMMMMMMM!! ;D

Hats off to MG and all the staff... would also like to acknowledge Neil Smith who is unsung but I watch him in the warm ups with the players and he really takes pride in his work. Agree with all above comments re ginge : deffo MOM, he doesn't treat the ball like a hot potato and yesterday seemed to have that bit of extra composure when it was at his feet + great free kick too.
Col called it right that we needed a strong ref and I thought he did well, it's always easy to bash the officials afterwards but he was strong and not afraid to hand out cards. Only thing was that once we'd had a pen they were always going to get one at some point, absolute cert that was. Well done lads, roll on the 1st round. KTF

Col, any chance you can have a word with the NLP and write the report every week. I don't buy the paper, just read it in the supermarket but they've sunk to new depths of ineptitude this week. The report is fairly neutral (surprisingly!) but the guy obviously wasn't at the match. Firstly, Sali was fouled for the penalty apparently and then Hakeem Ibrahimia put it away (?). Amazingly he got the Dartford scorer correct and the penalty miss. But then amazingly Gareth Williams was the quickest to react to (his own) free kick out wide!?!

To add to this the teams in the back are correct but apparently Pallen scored for us to give us a 2-0 lead at ht only for Williams to pull one back with 15 left...

Look, if you really can't give a toss now KFC aren't in the non-league scene, just fold the whole set-up! Don't continually put out even lower sub-standard cr*p than usual! I feel sorry for those who actually pay for this rubbish...

Mark, that doesn't surprise me one bit, last year the NLP described Harrison's wonder goal at Dartford as a "David Graves header"!
